Cream-Filled Puff Pastry Recipe

Ingredients

For the pastry:

* 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought is fine)
* 1 egg (for egg wash)
* Powdered sugar (for dusting)

For the custard cream:

* 500 ml milk
* 120 g sugar
* 4 egg yolks
* 40 g cornstarch
* 1 tsp vanilla extract
* 30 g butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the custard cream:

1. Heat the milk in a saucepan until warm (not boiling).
2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks + sugar until pale.
3. Add cornstarch and mix well.
4. Slowly pour warm milk into the mixture while whisking.
5. Return to heat and cook until thick.
6. Remove from heat, add butter + vanilla.
7. Let cool completely (cover with plastic wrap touching the surface).

2. Prepare the pastry:

1. Roll out puff pastry and cut into squares or rectangles.
2. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
3. Brush with beaten egg.
4. Bake at 200°C (about 390°F) for 15–20 minutes until golden and puffed.

3. Assemble:

1. Let pastries cool.
2. Slice them in half horizontally.
3. Fill generously with custard cream.
4. Dust with powdered sugar.

💡 Tips

* Chill the custard before piping for best texture.
* You can add whipped cream to lighten the filling.
* Try chocolate or coffee flavor variations for a twist.
