🦐 Pickled Shrimp Recipe (Southern Style)
Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
2–3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1/4 cup fresh parsley or dill, chopped
1 tablespoon capers (optional)
1–2 teaspoons mustard seeds
1 teaspoon celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or more to taste)
1/2 cup white wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1/2 cup olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
Salt and pepper to taste
—
Instructions:
- Layer the jar
In a clean 1-quart (1-liter) glass jar, layer cooked shrimp with red onion, garlic, parsley/dill, and capers if using.
- Make the pickling brine
In a bowl, whisk together vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, mustard seeds, celery seeds, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Pour and seal
Pour the brine over the shrimp mixture in the jar. Press the shrimp down to ensure it’s fully submerged. Seal the jar tightly.
- Chill and marinate
Refrigerate for at least 24 hours, shaking the jar occasionally. The longer it sits (up to 3–5 days), the better the flavor!
- Serve cold
Serve as an appetizer, on crackers, or over a salad.
✅ Tips:
Use large shrimp for best texture.
Add sliced lemon or bay leaves for extra aroma.
Keeps well refrigerated up to 5–7 days.
